Student Personal Smart and Other Communication Devices

CELL PHONES/WATCHES:

  • Cell phones and smart devices must be turned off or set to ‘do not disturb’ and stowed in backpacks during instructional time. Students may use their personal smart devices before school and after school, lunch, and brunch in designated, supervised areas. Cell phones and smart devices are not permitted to be out or used in bathrooms, locker rooms, or classrooms.
  • Earbuds and headphones may be used in class with the teacher's permission.
  • The school is not responsible for lost or stolen technology/items.


CELL PHONES & SMART DEVICES


Students may bring a cell phone or smart device to school and school-sponsored activities; however, these devices must remain turned off or set to "Do Not Disturb" and stowed completely away out of sight in backpacks during instructional time. Students may use their personal smart devices before school and after school, lunch, and brunch in designated, supervised areas. While individual teachers may utilize a designated Phone
Parking Lot in their classrooms, the baseline requirement is that all smart devices remain put away. Device usage of any kind is strictly prohibited in bathrooms and locker rooms. Phone use on school buses remains at the sole discretion of the bus driver. Students are entirely responsible for the security of their personal devices. The district assumes no responsibility for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property (BP 5131). If a student violates this policy, the device will be confiscated and held in the front office until the end of the school day. Persistent violations will result in parent contact and a mandatory morning check-in protocol at the front office for a predetermined period.


If a student violates the cell phone rule the following disciplinary action will occur:

  • 1st time cell phone is visible or turned on during non-permitted time – warning by a staff member.
  • 2nd offense – phone confiscated by staff member until the end of the period or placed in the office for the remainder of the day.
  • 3rd offense- parent contact and a mandatory morning check-in protocol at the front office for a predetermined period
  • 4th offense - Technology use agreement.
